OUR STORY IN COLOR
Welcome to Curved Theory! We’re glad you found us!
We’re a woman-owned design studio based in Frederick, Maryland, creating logos, brands, websites, graphics, and illustrations for people who want their business to actually stand out. Around here, we believe good design should feel like you. Not cookie-cutter. Not trendy just for the sake of it. Just thoughtful, creative work that helps your brand show up in the world in a way that feels authentic and memorable.
We especially love working with small businesses and nonprofits doing meaningful work in their communities. We know budgets are real, so we always try to approach projects in a way that’s thoughtful and realistic so good design is actually accessible. We’re also big fans of supporting local. Frederick is full of talented people doing cool things, and we love collaborating with other creatives whenever we can. If you’re a local creative and want to partner on a project, reach out!
At the end of the day, we just like helping good people build brands they’re proud of. Let’s make something great.
STAND OUT so you can OUTSTAND
OUTSTAND : (v) to be prominent; (v) to be outstanding or excel

Creative Director & Founder
Ashley DeCapua
Ashley has pretty much always been the art kid. She’s a multidisciplinary designer based in Frederick, Maryland with 18+ years of experience in brand design, graphic design, web design, and visual storytelling. Ashley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Washington and has spent her career exploring just about every corner of the creative world.
She actually got her start behind the scenes in television, working as a production assistant on the HGTV show, Designed to Sell. From there she moved deeper into design, creating brands, websites, and creative work for businesses, organizations, and community projects. She also wrote, illustrated, and published a children’s book, I Woofn't Do That!, because apparently one creative outlet wasn’t enough.
Ashley especially loves working with small businesses and nonprofits and supporting the organizations doing meaningful work in the Frederick community. Outside of client work, she serves as Board President of Wild Sprouts, a nature-based nonprofit that provides outdoor learning experiences for children and families. She’s a big believer in getting kids outside, muddy, curious, and connected to nature.
When she’s not designing, Ashley dreams of one day starting a dog rescue and maybe even an animal sanctuary, because if she had it her way, she’d probably just adopt every dog that needs a home.
Macklin is an up-and-coming designer and illustrator based in Frederick, MD, attending Salisbury University and graduating this year with a BFA in Graphic Design. Through design, he specializes in print, apparel, and illustration, but not limited to other design fields such as brand design, package design, and animation.
He has a fine art background, primarily working in ink and earning his Associates of Art at Frederick Community College, and was introduced to Illustrator through his computer graphics class in high school. Inspired by the visual storytelling of comics, graphic novels, and animated media, his goal is to publish his own series of graphic novels and other stories as an illustrator. Because of this, Macklin loves finding the little ways to tell a story in each project, whether that’s through packaging or satirical references in a hoodie design.
In his own words, he is a giant nerd that loves to collect comics, specifically Bronze Age comics from the 70s, and enjoys going to local comic conventions in Frederick. Outside of design, Macklin has a plethora of hobbies he enjoys, such as reading, writing, playing the guitar, movies, music, and working out. If he can engage in some form of creative or physical outlet, that’s where his passion and creativity lies.
